Getting Your Rebate Check

The push is on to make sure everyone who can get a rebate check gets one. To make sure you get a rebate, you must file a tax return even if you don't have to pay taxes. That includes retirees, veterans and low-income Iowans on social security. If you're in that group, Senator Tom Harkin announced the IRS will open up four spots in Iowa this Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Cedar Rapids 425 Second St. SE Des Moines 210 Walnut St. Sioux City3539 Southern Hills Drive Waterloo300 W. Third St.

IRS To Help People File

WASHINGTON - In order to get the economic stimulus payment coming out later this spring, you have to file a federal tax return.

Problem is, a lot of people don't -- among them people whose income is either too low or not taxable.

To help them, the Internal Revenue Service will open hundreds of locations this Saturday to prepare the simple Form 1040A for people who are filing a return solely to get their stimulus payment.

Some 320 IRS offices located in all 50 states and the District of Columbia will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., although some may be open longer.

Dan Boone, an IRS spokesman in Birmingham, said the agency will open 13 offices across Alabama. The sites are located in Birmingham, Chatom, Citronelle, Dothan, Huntsville, Irvington, Mobile, Montgomery and Prichard.

Help For Seniors to Receive IRS Payments

The Internal Revenue Service and its partners will open nineteen Tennessee locations on Saturday, March 29, in an effort to reach those Americans who are eligible for the economic stimulus payment but who normally are not required to file an income tax return.

These Stimulus Payment help sites in the NewsChannel 9 area include:

CHATTANOOGA

-Eastgate Mall City Center, 5600 Brainerd Rd. 10 am - 4 pm

-IRS Office, 5740 Uptain Rd. 9 am - 3 pm

CLEVELAND -Northeast Recreation Center, 264 Berry St. 10 am - 12 noon

IRS partners such as AARP, United Way of America and dozens of others also are making special efforts on Super Saturday to reach out to those who normally are not required to file a tax return. A list of IRS offices and partner sites providing assistance on Super Saturday is available at www.irs.gov or by calling the IRS Hotline, 1-800-906-9887, for free assistance locations.
